My granny, Agnes Jindot has passed away 11 years ago on 28th Mei 1998 due to lung and heart failure. I just remember it today after I called my mom. My mother is going to invite the neighborhood for a rosary prayer at home this Saturday. This year I will not be around, so my lil brother and Adam's family since we are not going back for this Harvest Festival which fall on the 1st June.
Nenek (name that I called her or Sumuk by other cousins) was born in 1916 to a Bidayuh couple that lives in rural area call Krokong, Bau. She was then had a arranged marriage with her then husband (my grandfather) a chinese miner when she was only 14 years old. (Bau is a gold mining town in the Kuching Division). She then had 8 daughters and a son. After a dreadful divorce, she went back to the Krokong and start a new life in a piece of land deep in the jungle. My mother was only 4 years old and nenek was pregnant with her younger daughter when the divorce took place. She do farming, paddy planting, rubber tapping and some other things to feed her children and send them to school. She is a real tough woman. I do know that because my mother and her siblings always talked about their mother all the time whenever they miss her so much.
I was quite naughty when nenek took care of me when my parent were not at home. I always complaining that her Milo is not delicious at all (My lil brother and I was still bottle feeding). Complaining that she nags us all the time (I was really damn naughty). Sometimes I would demand her to cook me Chicken Curry for lunch (I loves Chicken Curry and so nenek too). She loves me more than any of her grandchildren I guess because she wanted to leave her jewelry to me when she die (but my mother puts it all in her coffin). Remember one day when one of my brother studied in UUM, Sintok. I had this conversation with her at home. I was in Form 4 at that moment of time.
Marvic: Nenek, once Boni graduated from UUM, all of us will be there including you. We going to have holiday in Kedah then to Penang, KL..It surely will be fun right... ( I were combing my hair while having this conversation)
Nenek: Yes. We surely will go there with God's will... (she smiling to me)
Marvic: Of course we will be going there. After Boni, then it would be my graduation and you will be there too. The we take photo together. I'll get the hats(mortarboard) for you.
Nenek: Hmm...then you should study hard and dont watch tv all the time...
Marvic: Hmmm..ok.. (making faces since she said dont watch tv all the time..I love to watch tv)
(The real conversation was in Bahasa Melayu Sarawak and mixed up of Bidayuh dialect.Translation done in English for your reading)
She has gone way before I managed to finish my Secondary School. So every time I think of her, I felt a bit sad because she didnt manage to see her grandchildren doing quite well and she was not there with me when I were graduated. I just wished that she is still alive and she would be happy staying with us. I miss you nenek. I miss your smile, your nags, your cooks etc. May you rest in peace nenek.

Musical Movie - Grease

Remember this movie, starring by John Travolta and Olivia Newton John. Here is some of the scenes.
Sandy: I'm going back to Australia; I might never see you again.
Danny: Don't... don't talk that way, Sandy.
Sandy: But it's true! I've just had the best summer of my life, and now I have to go away. It isn't fair.
[Danny starts kissing her]
Sandy: Danny, don't spoil it!
Danny: It's not spoiling it, Sandy, it's only making it better.
Sandy: Danny... is this the end?
Danny: Of course not; it's only the beginning.
* * * *
Rizzo: [breaks out a bottle of wine] How about a little Sneaky Pete to get the party going?
[the girls all cheer]
Jan: Anyone want a Twinkie?
Marty: Twinkies and wine? Oh, that's real class, Jan.
Jan: It says right here it's a dessert wine.
[offers bottle to Sandy who's hesitant]
Jan: What's the matter? We don't got cooties!
Rizzo: I'll bet you've never had a drink before, have you?
Sandy: Oh, yes I did. I had some champagne at my cousin's wedding once.
Rizzo: Well, ringa ding-ding.

Rizzo: [after telling Marty that she thinks she might be pregnant] Marty, you ain't gonna tell anybody about this, right?
Marty: Oh sure, Riz, look: I'll take it to the grave.
Marty: [Marty turns and pushes her way past people, Rizzo following her] Coming through, coming through. Lady with a baby.

Songs that I like in this movie is Summer Nights, Hopelessly Devoted To You, Sandy, We Got Together & You're The One That I Want.
Grease - 1993 Original London Cast
I love this movie so much. It is very entertaining with couples of jokes, dance moves and songs. Please do look for this movie and watch it yourselves if you never watch it before. You will never regret watching this movie ever.

So, today I thought I would like to put one of Adam's favourite video on Hagemaru. It's in Malay language. Sorry for those that dont understand Malay language. I've look for the english version but cant find one. This post is special for Adam that just turned 4 years old on 15th May 2009. His birthday party will only be held on 1 June since his mama and papa is busy with work.

Should the term "Dayak:" be drop?
I read an article from Borneo Post via online. As the new generation of Dayak people or Bidayuh to be exact, I think the term of Dayak should not be drop as the whole world recognize Dayak as a big ethinc group of bumi in Borneo Island. This term that has been used since the colonial government (Brooke era) refers to ethnicity and it doesnt reflects the Dayak as uncivilised, uncouth and "low class". But that is what happen hundred of years ago. Now, I am still proud to call myself as a Dayak because I believe that the Dayak has been and progressing well to be one of the most dynamic ethnic in Borneo. We the Dayak achieves lots of achivement in economic, academ ic, social sciences and political as well. We managed to change our life from poor family to a well being family with the help of education.

Dayak YBs want to be called Dayak
By Irene C and Margaret Ringgit
KUCHING: Dayak elected representatives met at the Dewan Undangan Negeri yesterday were not supportive of the idea of dropping the term ‘Dayak’.
Ministers, assistant ministers and members of the august house seemed taken aback by the suggestion. Some of them refused to comment, while others replied negatively.
Those who agreed to be interviewed felt that it is alright to keep the term ‘Dayak’ to refer to the ethnic community in the state.
They disagreed with the suggestion that the term could connote that the community was uncivilised, uncouth and “low class”.
“To me, being called Dayak is not an issue, the most important think is that we know our own identity and we want to be united,” said Kemena assemblyman Dr Stephen Rundi, who is also the state BN secretary general.
He said he felt the issue had been blown out of proportion.
“The term ‘Dayak’ has been used by the colonial government to refer to ethnicity. On the other hand, we want to keep our tradition to be called Dayak as a form of unity,” he explained.
Dr Rundi, who is Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) secretary general, said he did not see the point of changing the term if it affected the unity and dignity of the Dayak people as a whole.
Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Peter Nansian said: “As Dayak, I am proud to be a Dayak and I would like to be called a Dayak.”
He said there was nothing to be ashamed of being a Dayak, arguing that it is part of the community’s identity.
“Derogatory is what you make it to be, not what you are,” said the Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) senior vice-president.
Assistant Minister of Land Development Francis Harden said the term ‘Dayak’ covers the various ethnic groups in Sarawak and that he was “fine” with it.
“To me, I am alright with the term … I don’t think by using that term, the Dayak community is outdated. We are progressing well,” he said.
Assistant Minister of Water Supply Sylvester Entri said there should be no problem using the term ‘Dayak’ as it referred to all non-Muslim ethnic groups in the state.
“For documentation purposes, should be no problem. Justifying the term … we can put Kayan or Kenyah, be specific,” he explained.
Assistant Minister of Rural Development Datuk Ambrose Blikau said the suggestion to drop the term ‘Dayak’ should be considered seriously as it reflected the community’s identity.
“The word ‘Dayak’ has been used for generations since the Brooke era, using the word does not mean that the community is uncivilised, uncouth and ‘low class’,” he argued.

I am proud being born as a Dayak in the Borneo Island.

Happy Mother's Day Mak*
My mother is the greatest of all. She has been there for me, give me her full support and almost everything that a daughter need from her mother. Except for on ..she doesn't like to talk much like I do. She is the kind that use her silence to show her anger or dislike on something that we did in front of her. She got this eyes that can make us, her children afraid of her every time we did something wrong. She never raise up her hand to hit or spank us until now. Her only reason is that, she had us in her belly for 9 months and then raised us alone (my father then was a police force and seldom stay at home because of his duty). Plus, she loves us more than anything in this world. We are her children. Well, I am fully understand her feeling even thou I am not a mother yet..hahaha....
She is the one who accompany me every time I went for my treatment. She is the one who took care of me every time i was admitted to the hospital. She is the one who taught me how to do business of my own (for my school pocket money) since I was still age 6. She is the one taught me how to survive in the jungle. She is the one that taught be to be more independent and a survival. She is the first who taught me ABC and 123...She is the one who taught me to be a good negotiator and know how to place a bargain.. She is the one who taught me how to be a good shopper..hehehe..She is the one that taught me about life and family. The rest I pick it up somewhere along my journey of life.
It has been nearly 3 years that I have been away from her due to my work in KL. Everytime I went back for my holiday, she keep asking me when will I get the chance to work in my old office (Kuching). I did promise her that once I finish my study I will try to get back to Kuching's office which is supposed to be in this June. That was my promise to her. But now, I had to broke the promise as I had plan of my career. I did this for her and my dad obviously. I want them to be proud of my success both in work and academic. I will be back Mak...it is just a matter of time. Happy Mother's Day to you..Love and Hugs from me....
